Gauged Ear Repair

Gauged ear repair surgery modifies earlobes that have been stretched by disc or plug earrings. The surgery restores ears so they appear as they did before the use of discs.

Cosmetic surgery for ears is a common procedure. In the past, people sought this surgery to reshape their ears and feel more confident.

Today, surgeons often perform gauged ear repair surgery on earlobes that have been gauged, or stretched deliberately. Dr. Garrett Vangelisti, an experienced surgeon, offers this procedure at The Untattoo Parlor.

For more than seven years, Dr. Vangelisti has worked in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. He has helped men and women look and feel better. He is the medical director of The Untattoo Parlor and is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.

What Does Earlobe Surgery Repair?

Gauged ear repair surgery repairs tissue that have been altered either deliberately or by accident. Some people gradually stretch their ears to wear increasingly larger discs or plugs. Others unintentionally elongate the lobes with heavy earrings. Jewelry that catches on clothing can tear or injure the tissue.

Each person’s reasons for wanting gauged ear repair surgery differ. Perhaps gauged ears aren’t right for your job, and you’re seeking a more professional style. Maybe you no longer like the look of plugs. If you’re unhappy with your appearance, achieve a more pleasing look through earlobe repair surgery.

We can improve stretched, torn or elongated tissue. During a consultation, we’ll discuss your situation, answer questions and let you know what to expect when you have surgery.

How Gauged Ear Repair Surgery Works

Earlobe repair surgery is done in one visit with local anesthesia. Most patients find the procedure painless. Each surgery will be a little different depending on the patient’s needs.

In general, this is how earlobe repair surgery is done:

  1. The surgeon makes small incisions in the elongated part of the ear.
  2. Excess tissue is removed.
  3. The surgeon reshapes and stitches the lobe.
  4. Dressings are applied.

Patients can resume their routines in a day or two following surgery. It’s a good idea to take it easy when healing from a medical treatment. If you experience discomfort, our staff may recommend an over-the-counter pain relief medication.

Your repaired earlobe will look restored and natural once it heals. After several weeks, you can have your ears pierced again if you choose.
